RETURN TO CRAFT
Return to Craft is the private, intellectual work of acting, articulated by a master teacher for trained actors who want their process back. The goal is simple: restore discipline, revitalize imagination, and reestablish artistic integrity so your work remains vivid, specific, and fully-realized.
RETURN TO CRAFT
A message from Charlie Sandlan
ACTING IS AN ART FORM – an honorable profession. A demanding, deeply human pursuit. You took yourself seriously. You trained. You committed to the work.
Over time something shifts.
Your process erodes. The work becomes general, habitual, transactional. Technique gives way to expediency. Craft gives way to shortcuts. The artist you set out to be feels distant.
Return to Craft exists for one reason: to bring you back to the artist you want to be. You already know what the work requires: discipline, specificity, imagination, emotional depth. When those standards erode, so does the quality of your work.
Here you will return to the fundamentals, refine your process, and reawaken your imagination. You will reconnect to why you chose this life in the first place. Because acting, at its best, illuminates the human condition. And that requires craft worthy of the responsibility.
If you are ready to recommit to your technique, your discipline, your imagination, and to yourself, then let’s get to work.

Return to Craft
A Message from Charlie Sandlan
Acting is an art form — an honorable profession.
A serious, demanding, deeply human pursuit.
You took yourself seriously.
You trained.
You committed to the work.
Years pass.
Your process erodes.
Your work becomes dull, generalized, and transactional.
Technique gives way to easy habits.
Craft gives way to shortcuts.
The disciplined artist you set out to be feels distant.
Return to Craft exists for one reason:
Inside this work, you will:
- Revisit the fundamentals — the bedrock of truthful, experiential acting
- Refine your process — the habits that create consistency and artistry
- Reawaken your imagination — the source of specificity and depth
You will remember why you chose this life
Because acting, at its best, illuminates the human condition.
And that requires a craft worthy of the responsibility.
If you are ready to recommit…
to your technique,
to your discipline,
to your imagination,
and to yourself…
Then let’s do the work.
Rediscover your process.
Reignite your passion.
Return to artistry.

How To Begin Your Return
Return to Craft is a cohesive, four-course training program for trained, professional actors who want to reconnect with their artistic process.
Course 1 is the required entry point, and the foundation upon which the entire program is built.
This is not a beginner’s course.
You already have technique. RTC exists to help you reclaim it.
Over the course of the program, you will:
- Rebuild the fundamentals required for vivid, truthful human behavior
- Eliminate generality, bad habits, and shortcuts
- Restore disciplined process and artistic standards
- Reawaken imagination and emotional depth
Who RTC Is For?
Return to Craft is designed for actors who:
- Have received serious, professional training
- Feel their work has become safe, generalized, or phoned in
- Want to reconnect to discipline, technique, and process
- Are no longer willing to work below their own standards
What You’ll Recover Inside RTC?
Technique
The tools required to create organic, vivid, fully realized human behavior.
Discipline
The habits and expectations that align your daily work with your ambition.
Imagination
The creative engine that brings humanity, depth, and specificity back into your acting.
You once had all of this.
RTC was designed to restore it.
Return to Craft and the Maggie Flanigan Studio are distinct, but rooted in the same artistic philosophy. RTC articulates the standards thinking, and process that have guided my work as a teacher. MFS is where that work is embodied, practiced, and refined in the classroom. They are not interchangeable. They are complementary.

I was completely lost before I joined the Maggie Flanigan Studio. The work that Charlie has us doing was so powerful and beneficial that it made me realize that I am exactly where I need to be.

Charlie is a surgical analyst of truth. He teaches in a way that builds trust and safety, cultivates truthful experience, and offers us a way to develop our craft in order to play truthfully with heightened artistic expression.
Jessica M
Charlie is an exceptional teacher. His precision, insight, and uncompromising standards push you far beyond surface level performance into something honest, specific and alive.
Tess C
Charlie has complete domain of the craft. He is so tuned in with what’s happening during class. It was very hard, but eventually I was able to be fully present, to really listen, and to express how I feel.
Gibran G
Charlie is the type of teacher that will tell you what acting is when he sees it. He will also tell you what acting is not when he sees it. As a student, it’s important to know the distinction. Charlie teaches you how to respect the truth by always telling it. Even when it hurts.
